Listen Closely – Psychological Suspense
Listen Closely is a 74,000 word stand alone psychological-suspense novel set in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. It explores the complex relationship people can have with reality, and the terrifying paths that absolute certainty can lead. I am currently querying the manuscript along with November Sunrise, a crime procedural and companion novel to this book.
November Sunrise – Crime
November Sunrise is an 84,000 word stand alone crime-procedural novel that is also set in Glenwood Springs. It follows Detective Stephen Mercer who is reeling from four bodies turning up in his small town in the span of a week, while his marriage hits a long overdue breaking point. A steady FBI partner helps him to move forward as they work together in a task force with its sights set on an elusive killer. I wrote it as a slow-burn partnership that never crosses the line but I hope sticks with readers longer than if it did. The book is now out to some beta readers, and querying in the trenches.
After Image – Crime/Thriller
After Image is an 85,000 word crime novel that I have completed. It follows Detective Mercer as he leaves Glenwood Springs behind for a new start in Denver, a year after the events of November Sunrise. A copycat is recreating the worst week of his life with a string of murders.
As he digs deeper he has to face an uncomfortable possibility. The forensic precision is too high. The details too perfect. The person doing this is likely someone he knew.
Privileged Access – Crime
Privileged Access is a book that I am currently working on. While the last three took place over 2018-2019, this one will see a time jump up to June of 2022 with Detective Mercer finding another interesting case before him.
Cases come through Major Crimes that are too perfect. A suicide, a drug overdose, a drunk driving accident. Mercer stands over one of these and it just doesn’t feel right. He begins to piece together that someone is digitally stalking these people, and that they share connections between each other that are hard to see unless you know where to look.
This book will focus much more on my cybersecurity expertise, and lead readers through an investigation that combines the shoe leather investigative grind with a detective who has put effort into understanding the digital landscape we all live in.
