PC Building

The 2026 Update:

So two big changes to my rig since last summer.

I swapped out the 3080 for a 9070xt back in September. The card is awesome, and supports my ultrawide way better. I upped the power supply from 750 to 1000 watts just last week. Was getting driver timeouts from power shortage. PC is set to rip for the next half decade at least I’d say.

Where it started:

I started building PC’s back in 2010 with encouragement from my friend Keith. The old build is long gone, and the one pictured above was built in 2022. You can check out the component list here. Really enjoyed learning to build PC’s. I still have my previous build rocking an AMD R9 390 from 2016 that my girlfriend games on with me sometimes after dialing most of the settings down to medium. I think I can credit building PC’s as something the genuinely got me into thinking more in depth about technology.

So far the NVIDIA 3080 card (pictured) has done reasonably well, however with the 37.5” ultrawide monitor I have started to notice some issues with newer (un-optimized) games. Going to have to think about an upgrade in the next year or two. Was lucky enough to avoid the big issues with the 13th and 14th gen Intel CPU’s by getting the best 12th gen you could buy in 2022. Will likely swap to an AMD build for the next full one, although if Intel comes along with GPU’s who knows.
