I have just finished up my texture pass on November Sunrise. I’ve been reading a lot lately and trying to apply the lessons into this novel. I feel it has gone pretty well. I’ve chosen to read Stephen King not for the genre association clearly, but for the way that man can turn a damn phrase. His way of describing a scene, a mood, a vibe in less than literary but super creative ways has been really inspiring. I tried to work this into my own voice, using my own words.
At the end of it all the draft grew from 71,000 to 81,000 words and I believe it has only benefited from it.
In other news some of the agent rejections have started to come in for Listen Closely. Just a few to start. Of course this is normal but I felt it worth noting. Every aspiring to be published author goes through this and of course I wouldn’t be any different! Instead of letting it bring things down I’ll try and take it as inspiration to improve and stay persistent.
It does feel good to have my second novel nearly ready to go. I got some great feedback on the query letter yesterday and should be getting copies out to betas soon. As always more to come…
